In Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 the user can password-protect the application’s settings from changes. If you have forgotten the password, it can even be impossible to manage the settings and functionality of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0.
To disable password-protection, do the following:
- Restart your computer in safe mode
- Go to the setup folder of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0. By default these products are installed in the following folders:
- Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP2: C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0
- Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 MP2: C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0
- Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations MP2: C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations
- Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers MP2: C:\Program Files\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers
- Rename the file avp.exe (to temp.exe for example)
- Restart your computer in the normal mode
- Run the renamed file
- Open the main application window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
- Go to the Service tab
- Go to the Settings section
- In the Protection section disable the options Enable Self-Defense and Enable password protection.
- Click OK.
- exit Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0 (right-click the Kaspersky icon and in the menu select Exit)
- go to the setup folder of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
- give the avp.exe file its initial name back
- start Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
- open the main window of Kaspersky Anti-Virus version 6.0
- go to Settings > Service
- in the right part of the window enable Enable Self-Defense and Enable password protection
- in the Self-defense section click the Settings button
- enter a new password
- click Ok to close each window
