Two suns in the sky by 2012

Earth is believed to be getting a second sun burning in the sky before the end of 2012, as the second biggest star in the universe, Betelgeuse, is dying, which could lead to “multiple days of constant daylight”.

Its not the apocalypse as many may think, it’s just the second biggest star in the universe and the eighth brightest in the sky, Betelgeuse, losing mass, which indicates it could go supernova soon.
The light emitted from the explosion will be so bright that it will appear for a few weeks as a second sun in the sky and there may not be night during that period, according to senior lecturer of physics at the University of Southern Queensland, Brad Carter.
Earth will experience “brightness for a brief period of time for a couple of weeks and then over the coming months it begins to fade and then eventually it will be very hard to see at all”, explained the Australian scientist Brad Carter to news.com.au.

Scientist have known about this dying star, 640 light years away from Earth, since 2005, but it is believed is will go supernova anytime from 10 to 1000 years more probably in 2012. However, the light that is believed to last for days in the sky will not be harmful.

“There will be neutrinos emitted during the process, but neutrinos, even lots and lots of them, are only weakly interacting, so they won't affect life on earth”, said University of Minnesota physics professor Priscilla Cushman.
